I live in a small town in Washington State, USA, with my wife, two sons, two dogs, a cat, and family nearby. I work at the local community college as an I.T. Specialist.
In March of '02, we bought a 70-some year old house that needed a lot of work. When I'm not working on the house, I like to throw pots, be outside, and read a lot.
We have found mosaic tiling to be deceptively easy. I suspect the hard part becomes preparing the surface under the mosaic. If you are going to tile a garden table, say, you have to may absolutely sure the underlying table will not flex and crack the grout. Applying the mosaic itself is about as complicated as making a peanut butter and jam sandwich. Its a convenient medium to work in because you can pick up and put down your projects with relative ease (compared to pottery or blow glass for example).
I've been interested in ceramics for a long time. The mosaic idea is relatively new and has been quite a lot of fun. I can't decide whether to start another one in the bathroom at this point or move into the basement.
